Dear readers,
We have two big announcements we want to share with you. One is that our dear friend Kimberly Fox will be joining Still Learning (you might recognize her exceptional illustration skills in the image above). The other is that we have been working on a very exciting project…a series of decodable books called Daffodil Hill Press. And we have decided that August 2 is Daffodil Hill Press’s official birthday!
We’ve talked with many of you about the power decodable texts can have in our teaching, especially for young readers who are just beginning to solidify their phonics knowledge. Decodable texts can help kids feel successful as readers as well as apply the phonics they are learning. The issue is, there are just not enough high-quality, engaging decodables that represent all kids out there. So we decided to write some! We hope our books will bolster your teaching toolkit.
Right now, you can purchase Collection 1, a series aimed towards early readers, for delivery within a few weeks. This set includes 30 titles of books that feature CVC words and words with digraphs. And we’re excited to announce that you can now preorder Collection 2 for delivery in October, a series of another 30 titles that feature words with blends and silent e.
The books are available as classroom sets (10 copies of each of the 30 titles = 300 books) as well as an individual teacher/caregiver set (1 copy of each of the 30 titles = 30 books). Purchases come with online teaching resources—a replicable lesson plan, blending lines, and cheat sheets for each book—as well as free access to digital copies of each book until June 2023.
We’re proud that our books are short, engaging, and feature a group of diverse characters. So far, we’ve found them to be motivating for kids and practical for teachers. Check out our 8 free e-books and cheat sheets here!
Stay tuned for our upcoming posts, which will focus on decoding instruction and how to use decodable books like ours.
We’d love to hear what you think!
